TRACTION-ENGINE FATALITY-
. GOES THROUGH A BMDGE. {By T«lejraph—Press Association.) Hastings, May 10. The Eawko's Bay Timber Company's tracticm enigine, while drawing' two trucks of gravel this afternoon under contract with the County' Council, broke .through the bridge on the fiavciock-Mangoteretere Road. The engine turned turtle and 101 l thirty feet into the crock below. The driver, It. E. Turpin, aged 40, a married man with five children, a resident of Port Ahuriri, was killed instantly. His mate, Laurence Williams, of I?issiiigton, fell into the water beneath (lie engine, and remained there until the steam cleared. Re was scalded about, the i'neo and leg, but was not otherwise seriously injured. Ho was removed to the Xnpier Hospital.
