"DEADHEADS."
STATE NOMINEES ON LOCAL BODY. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Christchurch, May 7. At the meeting of the Domain Board today, a letter wjs received from the town clerk stating that the council had increased their contribution to .£l5O per annum. Ho also mentioned that the council had passed a resolution that the Government should not nominate representatives to the board unless it granted n subsidy, and urging the board to provide a Bill to amend its constitution in the direction of limiting representation only to those bodies who contributed not less than .£SO each to tho board's funds. The chairman said that it was a question whether the board was- the proper body to make representation regarding « change in its constitution, Mr. George Harper said that nny Bill would have to be made a Government measure. Sir. A. D. Hart Aiid that what (lie council obiected to was that the representatives "of the Government were really "deadheads," for tho Government contributed nothing to the board's funds. It was decided that representations bo made to the Minister for Lands for a Government grant of .£SO for each Government member on the hoard. It may be mentioned that the three Government representatives nn the board wcro the tiireo members for Christchurch. Of these, however, Messrs. Ell ami Davey have resigned.
