TRAMCARS COLLIDE.
SHORT CIRCUIT IX CONTROL BOX. (By Telegraph—Press Association.; Auckland, May 7Two trams collided this evening while going up V7elleslcy Street which is a fairly steep ferade. The nictormnii of tho foremost car received very severe cuts on his face. Apparently a short circuit occurred in the control box of the leading car, and it commenced to run back. Motorman Saunders was unable to handle tho brakes ill tho forward portion of tho car through tho electrical blaze. He promptly ran to tho rear and applied the brakes. A collision, however, was inevitable, and both ears were lwdly damaged. Saunders's promptitude, although injured, in applying the brakes, prevented a more serious accident, as both the cars were filled with passengers, all of whom wero thrown from their seats by the impact.
