RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
I PALMERSTOX NORTH CASE. (By Telecraph.-Press Association.) Palmerston N., May •}. !''.The findings of tho Railway Appeal Board in the eases heard yesterday were given this morning. In regard to Short's appeal against his dismissal, tho Court was unanimously of opinion that appellant was not lindei- tho influence of liquor, but at the same time tho board was of opinion that appellant should have signed on time, as requested. The board recom.nended that a fine of .£1 would meet the easp.
With regard to the appeal of Murphy, a porter, against his dismissal, the Court was of opinion that there were faults both on tho part of appellant and tho coaching foreman, and that both parties became heated. Exercise of tact on the part of tho superior officer would, in the opinion of tho Court, probably havo prevented the occurrence (refusal to put luggage in a i The incident was an isolated one in tho service, and appellant considered the punishment outweighed the offence. Tho board was of opinion that the appeal should bo upheld. Dr. M'Arthur congratulated all concerned on the amicable manner in which the proceedings had been conducted.
