SUBDIVISION OF NATIVE LAND. Messrs. Hitchings, Hankins and Co., Ltd., of Levin, report having eold, by publio auction, at Pahiatua, on May i, in conjunction with Messrs. p. A. Preeco and Co., of PnJrnerston -North, 688 acres of land, situated near Hukanui Station, the property of Ereni Tβ Awo Awo, cut up into 6 sections, from 68 to 11G acres, at the following prices :—Section 1, 69 acres, G. F. Kanby, ,£2O per acre. Section 2, 68 acres. Dr. Dawson, .£l6 16s. per acre. Section 3, 116 acres, 6. P. Ranby, ,£25 IJils. per acre. Section 4, SO acres. G. P. Ennby, .£l7 per acre. Section 5, 78 acres, S. Walkley. £\G 10s. per acre. Section 6. 78 acres, W. Tuoni, .£IG lOa. per acre. Section 7, 78 acres, G. F. Ranby, £15 15s. per cicro. Section 8, fiS acres, Dr. Dawson, .£l6 ss. pot acre. The total fales amounted to -.£11.727. The faming interests in this district havo for yenrs sought the. subdivision of this land*' which was eventually mado by Ereni Tβ Awe Awe. It is believed fo be the first instance of the Native people subdividing and selling the land.
