NO NIGHT BOATS.
EASTBOURNE FERRY SERVICE. Replying to congratulatory speeches at the installation ceremony yesterday, Mr. H. W. Shortt (the re-elected Mayor of Eastbourne) referred to a burning topic anions residents of the borough—the ferry service. Improvement (he said) had been effected in the landing facilities on the eastern side of the harbour, and also to the ferry wharf on tho city side. But despite the utmost efforts of tho council to secure an improvement in the boat service, it had been unablo to obtain a reduction of far<;=, and now tho night boat was to be taken off. It was possiblo that the borough would be conceded the retention of a night service on Mondays and Wednesdays, but Hie whole question called for the earnest and serious attention of tho council, as this questioa was of the greatest importance to tho residents ot the borongh, to their general progress, in fact. (Applause.) The. standing snb-coinniitteo of the council, whtch'is charged with the supervision of the lorougn's interests with regard to the ferry service, was instructed to go further into the 'matter, and report to tho next meeting of the council.
