HOCKEY,

THE LADIES' ASSOCIATION. A BREEZY .MEETING. "We, the undersigned secretaries of three associated clubs (as required by Rule 16) respectfully request you to call a special general meeting of the association to consider a- protest against tho legality of the annual general meeting, held on Monday, April 13, I!U2, on the following grounds*-(1) That Rule i was not carried out, inasmuch that persons other than delegates (or substitutes, as provided for in Rule 12) were allowed to be present and take part thereat. (2) That a member of a club (not a delegate) was elected a member of tho executive committee, the same not being in accordance with Rule 0. (:)) That that part of Rule M, which refers to the report and balance-sheet, was not carried out,"

The above requisition was the cause of a breezy meeting of the Wellington Ladies' Hookey Association, held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms, last evening. Dr. Izard occupied the chair. In explanation of the requisition, it should be explained that at tho annual meeting of the association held on April 15, tho chairman (Dr. Izard) ruled that it was competent for a member not a delegate of a club to be elected a member of the executive committee, and on that ruling Mss Fulton (of the Srens Club) was elected. Rule -t of the nsociation reads:—"That the association shall hold one annual general meeting in the first week in April of each year, and may hold special general meetings to be convened as provided by those rules.' No club shall have any right to take part in the management or a flairs of the association except by delegates as hereinafter provided." ho point of last evening's meeting was reached when Mr. H. J. Hunter moved, and Mr. J. Cusack seconded, that business transacted at the annual meeting be declared illegal on tho grounds that the rules of the association were not adhered to.

Mr. M'lul.vie moved as an amendment that the ruling of the chairman be agreed to. This was lost by 13 voles to 8. The original motion was also negatived. On the result of Mr. M'lnlyre> , s amendment being made known, both Dr. Izard and Miss Fulton tendered their lesignatious as members of the executive.

Mr. Cusaek, in moving a vote of thanks io the retiring chairman, made it clear that nothing personal was intended, but all they wished was that the rules of the association be strictly- adhered to both in the conduct of meetings anil otherwise. The vote was carried with acclamation.

Mr. D. Park, of Palmerston North, wrote, stating that at a meeting of delegates representing Woodviile, Woirnnpa. The shield wou'd be. handed to the centre, the nnlv stipulation being that the championships should be allotted to a different town each vcar. On the motion of Mr. Dawson, it vat decided to appoint a eninniittce, roiisistmg of Messrs. Killo. Dunn, nml Po'lnck, to consider the question of a country clubs' championship, nnd report to a future meeting.

A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. M'Villy for his donation of the shield, special reference bcinc; made to the excellent results that had followed upon his donation of a shield for (ho provincial championships. Telegraphic advice was received of a proposal to form a harriers' club in FoiHins.
