LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL.
AN APPROACHING CONFERENCE. The chairman of tho Wellington Hospital Board (Mr. J. Trevor) has been requested by the Minister for Internal Affairs to convene a conference of delegate's, representing about 30 local bodies in the Wellington Hospital district, which, conference will in turn elect five delegates to represent the district local bodies at tlio Conference which is being convened by the Government to consider tho provisions of tho Local Government Bill. Tho principal bodies which will be represented at tho preliminary conferenco are tho Wellington City Council, the Wellington Harbour Board, the Wellington Hospital Board, tho Hutt, Horowhcnua, and Makara County Councils, and the boroughs of Karori, Miramar, Onslow, Lower Hutt, and Pctone. Tho City Council will send three delegates to tho preliminary conference, the Harbour and Hospital Boards and county councils two each, and tho boroughs mentioned one each. Road and river beards in the-dis-trict will also bo represented.
Tho preliminary conference will Tjo held at Wellington on Monday next at 2.30 p.m., and the conference, to consider the Local Government Bill will open on Tuesday, May 21. Tho Local Government Bill has been under consideration by tho Legislation Committee of the City Council and the City Solicitor (Mr. ,7. O'Shea) has been instructed to report to tho committee as to tho manner in which the proposed measure will affect tho city financially and in other ways. The report will eventually be laid before the council in order that its delegates may bo fully posted regarding the principal features of the Bill when they attend tho Municipal Conference in July.
