RAILWAYS AND TELEPHONES.
Cabinet, at a mooting yosterday, authorised the expenditure of tho following eums out of moneys voted by Parliament:—
Railwnvs: Permanent way in various districts,' .£03,000; South Island Main Trunk, .£'1000; Gisborno-Napier, .£1800; Gisbornc-Motu, .£8000; Motu-Opotiki, ,£300; Catlins-Waimahaka, X 5000; Midland, JIloOO; Kawnkawa-llokianga, iCGOOO; Kailiu Valley extension, .£750; Westportlnangahua, JC7OO. Improvement of the Waihou River (under the Waihou and Ohiuomuri Rivera Improvement Act), ..£OSOO. Cabinet also authorised the opening or a telcphono exchange at East Oxford, tho installation of a telcphono scrvico between Havelock (Marlborough) and Tiraitangi, installation of metallic circuit betwocn Masterton and Alfredton, and tho opening of a telephone office nt Port M'Hardy (D'Urvillo Island).
