House. And it is evident that there is an ample public for this kind of play, for the house on Saturday night was in most parts full to the utmost, many people being turned away from the do'ors. Those who got inside evidently found themselves, generally speaking, fully rewarded for the effort. Applause was loml and frequent. The play is melodrama naked and unashamed. Kate Stirling, a factory girl, is honourably loved by Guy Warren, her employers son and heir, but "Warren pere has decided that Guy should marry Lady Constant* Heatlilield, who, being impecunious, desires a wealthy husband. The factory manager, -Mark Klaw, tries to rob Kate oi her'good name, and .succeeds in getting her father into his power, and is so surprisingly fortunate as Jo discovei documentary prools that Mr. Warren, sen i* the son of a bigamous marriage, and"that Kate's father is the, lawful heir to the Warren millions. Tt was, of course the ending which the 'house desired, and though it was brought, to puss through a series of very, very unlikely happenings, the "house" did not object. Miss Louise. Hampton deserves praise fur her natural and emotional net jug :i< Kate Sliding. The less sympalhelic roll) of Lady Hoathtield was pluyed by .Miss Harrie.'lreland, who was admirable in the earlier scenes, tjut. foil oti a little in some of the later ones. Miss J'nttie Gnurlay as Mrs. Stirling, and Miss "Elsie Prince us \imie Brown, a girl wronged by Klaw, were satisfactory. Mr. ,Cecil Alennering was a rather unequal btro, but distinctly »ood at times. Mr. I'erbert Linden achieved an r-soape from the conventional style for villain?, and made the part so nitich the less incredible. Mr. Bannister Howard. Mr. Godfrev Cars, Air. \ incent Scullv.
