The weekly organ recital by Mr. Mauglian Burnett (City Organist), at the Town Hall on Saturday evening was attended by a comparatively large audience, as audiences afth'ese enjoyable recitals go. 'I'he programme was a very fine one indeed, and very, much appreciated by those who were fortunate, enough.'.ln. lie present to judge from their frequent 'demonstrations of approval. ' -As. usual, the recital was opened by an excerpt from .the Bach folio of preludes and fugues for the. organ— the composer's- magnificent Opus in K Minor,'a great .lavourito'with Mendels : solin. by the way. ;A ; Schubert bracket, which included the "Serenade" and. the celebrated "Marche Militaire" (Schubert-. Tansig. arrangement), followed. An excerpt from the album of Berens (late Court Director of Music at Stockholm)— his "Fantasia in C Minor"—was a. delightful number, and interesting (notes Dr. I'earco) as constituting the composer's solo contribution to the literature, of the organ. Sodermnniv's "Swedish Wedding March" (by 'which (he composer is chiefly familiar to English audiences) a bright'. "Allearetto in B Minor" of Guilmani's. and AVagner's descriptive "Hide of the Valkyries" (au old favourite with Mr. Bnrn'ctt's audiences), made up tho remainder "of the o'rganibfs programme. Assisting at the recital was Mr. P. TC. Johnstone, the talented ■Wellington 'cellist, whose contributions, an "Adagio," from Tartini, and Popper's "Hungarian Rhapsody," were quite delightful items. Mrs. F. il. Johnston accompanied the 'cellist.
