WAIRARAPA AND EAST COAST P. & A. SOCIETY.

The report of the society to bo presented at the annual meeting on Jlay 1 is as under:— Tlio show again was marred lo a great extent by the weather conditions, and though wo had a larger attendance than lust year, still we could not hope to achicve a record success during the weather we experienced in our late spring. Our entries were not up to the previous year's show in point of numbers, which was it record, still t.he show receipts show a large increase, which more than balances tlio dilference ill entries, proving that the show retains its popularity. You will notice that members number over COO, referred to in our last report, but your committee is confident that this number can be largely increased, and it is hoped special efforts to effect this will be made by members and committee during the coming year. ~_Your ground committee has avoided erecting any permanent improvements (luring the year, but at various meetings it had lietd on the grounds, necessary repairs were authorised. Since last show, iho importance of covering our sheep pens has been brought before your committee, and after serious consideration by finance, ground, and general committees, it was decided to issue debentures to have the work carried out. Nearly all the debentures were taken up by tho committee, who would have preferred to distribute them amongst all members interested. The plans of (he covering of the sheep pens have been carefully drawn up. and we look forward to seeing this very valuable addition to our improvements erected in the near future. Members have reason lo feel proud of tho success of the last ploughing match, which, although held in wretched weather, like the one before, was largely attended, and brought out good competition. Through the generosity of various business men and farmers ill the JYairarapa, wo were enabled to offer good prizes, and this no doubt contributed to the success of the competition. It has been decided to hold the match this year on Jlay 2,1 next, at C'larcville, on Jfr. A. J. Reynolds's farm, who has kindly placed a-paddock at the disposal of the commit top. The various challenge cups, rose bowls, and trophies offered each year were well competed for, and only one eitp has been won outright, the Quiboll Cup, by Jlessrs. Nelson Bros., to ivhom we ull'er hearty congratulations. The dairying section was the feature of the Inst show, and tho cattle particularly- in Aryshires, were as fine an exhibit as ever met on the show grounds. Your committee has fixed the date of the noxt show for October 23 and 24, the week following Hawke's Bay, as usual. Wo desire, on behalf of the society, to thank those who contributed to tho prizo fund, both in JVellingJon and JYairarapa, and also to express our anpreciation of tho work carried out. by the judges and stewards, to whom belongs in a great measure, the credit of the success and popularity of the annual fixture. The president, vice-president, treasurer, and auditor, and a proportion of the committee retire, ace.ording to 'the rules, and you will be called upon to elect their successors. The expenditure under all heads amounted to 7s. sd„ and the receipts foil short of this sum bv X's'lo 2s. Bd. The assets total .£3132 ts'.. and exceed the liabilities bv 4;2")2t 2s. 10(1. The financial year of the society closed on March 31 last.
