CHARITY PROJECT DROPPED. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) Auckland, April 20. Tho principal moving picturo entrepreneurs ol Auckland were desirous of increasing tho Titanic relief fund by donating tuo proceeds ut suitauto entertainments pioposed to bo held in the thrco largest picture halls of the city on Sunday evening after church hours. In view of tho necessary sanction having been withheld • V 1? Cl ,'y Council, however, tho proposal has fallen through. Yesterday, tho chairman of the Auckland Ministers Association (the Kev. J. Locker) waited on the Mayor (Mr, C J Parr) for the purpose of entering a'protest against any entertainments in the nature of picture shows, being sanctioned for Sunday evening. He said tho principle was regarded ns one of vital importance, and that ministers wero backed up bj public opinion to very l&rgc extent in upholding it. Tho Mayor took the opportunity to refer the matter to tho Works Committee, which happened to bo meeting yesterday afternoon, and ns a result tho applications for permission to bold picture entertainments on Sunday evening wero declined. Sanction was given for them to tako placo on Sunday afternoon, Tho applicants do not seo their way to comply with this condition, however, and the matter is being allowed to drop.
