SYDNEY MYSTERY.
POLICE RECEIVE LETTERS,
BUT GAIN NO INFORMATION. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright. (Rec. April 25, 9.30 p.m.) Sydnoy, April 25. The police have received a number of anonymous letters regarding the death of Clarice Barker on Sunday, but they throw no light on the mystery. 1 Barker came from New Zealand in March of last year. The deceased was walking home to the Glebe in company with a man named William Gilchrist when two men accosted them. Ono asked Gilchrist what he was doing with his wife. Gilchrist replied that he did not know the woman way Barker then proceeded with the strangers. Gilchrist watched them, and saw them stop outside a vacant allotment. J. he woman later climbed over a fence and walked off in the darkness., A few minutes afterwards ono of the men iollowed ami quickly reappeared. He spoke to his companion, and both hurried away. Gilchrist went in search of Barker, and found her dead body at the bottom of a dry storm-water channel. The only mark of violence on tho body was a fractured wrist.
