ROTORUA TO , A. (By Toleirraph.-Special Correspondent.) Auckland, April 25. A tour of the Hot Lakes district just completed by Mr. H. J. Patten, of Chicago, U.S.A., has left that gentleman visibly impressed with the beauties of the trip from liotorua to Waikareiuoana. Tho visitor was accompanied over tho route by Mr. 1\ W. Jloorhouse, of tho Government Tourist Department. "Tho finest thing I have seen in New Zealand," was the description applied to the trip by Mr. l'attcn, when speaking to a "Herald" representative. Ho spoke enthusiastically of the enjoyment he experienced' in tho seventy-five miles coach drive from Kotorua, and the second stage of tho journey to Waikaremouna on horseback alonj tho forty-milo trade formed by the Goveminent eight years ago. Owing to th« bad repair of tho track in question, caused by fallen logs, etc., Mr. l'attcn and hi* party could not complete tho forty-milo ride in the one day, and so camped out for a night. "It was a wonderful trip," ho said, "and the only dangerous part of it was the crossing of tho various streams." _ .

Mr. ratten spent three days fishing in tho Taupo district, and whilst there ho saw several Hit. trout caught. "I have seen nothing this district for fishing iu tho whole world," he declared. Tho facilities for deer shooting in the Galatea, district also impressed Mr. ratten. Ho was fortunate onough to obtain three snapshots of stags, and was delighted thereat.
