Gerard, cx-official assignee, of the Northern judicial district, was on Friday last tho recipient of a handsomo gold watch and chain, presented to him bv merchants of Auckh.i'i-1, in addition to the illuminated address huuded to him upon his retirement from the post of assignee. Tho presentation, which had been delayed owing to a decision to soml Homo for tho watch, was made, on bohaTr of Hie subscribers, by Messrs. A. 0. Stewart, A. Graham, and A. B. lioberton.
Miss Carrie Moore, tho clever mnsir.il comedy actress, who was the original "Merry 'Widow" in Australia, is at present a .visitor, to .Wellington.
