Lnuronson and the Hon.Tcßangihiroaare at Waitara, and the Hon. 'I'. Buxton at Teimtkn. Remaining in Wellington are tho Hon. W. D. S. Mncdonald, the Hon. J. A. Hamin,. and tho Hen. H. G. Ell. A Press Association message from Auckland states that tho Hon. A. M. Myers visited Helonsville and Te Hama yesterday. He will bo engaged to-day in receiving deputations with regard to improvements in tho suburban railway service and other matters. Tho Hon. (J. W. Russell, Minister for Internal Affairs, will arrive in Auckland tomorrow, and will attend the citizens' reception to tho Hon. A. M. Myers on Thursday.
A record attendanco at the Wellington South School by a girl named- Eugenia who had attended without a. break for eight year?, has been recognised by the School Committe, who presented her with a special prize.
Mr. R, 13. Ross. ex-M.P. for Pahiatua, has consented to become a candidate for a scat on tho Hawke's Bay Laud Board, in the interests of Crown tenants.—Press Association. Mr. Georgo Allport, Secretary of Marine, left; Wellington for the south last evening on Departmental business.
Mr. Eric Waters, son of Mr. 1. V. Waters, of this city, has been appointed teacher of tlv.i pianoforte in the Nelson School of Music, vico Miss Phyllis Fell, resigned. Mr. Waters is a pupil of Mr. Kobert Parker, and was deputy-organist at St. Pauls Tro-Cathedral.
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Brice have left Wellington to embark at Auckland for tho South Sea Islands trip.
Tho Rev. H. Van Stavoren, of the Terrace, has received a cable message to tho effect that his daughter, Miss Adelaide Van Staverou, who recently created a splendid impression at Fossana (Italy) as Azucena in "II Trovatore" was to have oppeired at the Covent Garden Opora House, London, on Saturday evening. Tho advice stated that sho was to sing the second part, which would bo "Michacla"—a good but unsympathetic role—with a magnificent aria in the third act.
Mr. W. A. Midlane, who recently retired from tho firm of Miller, Midlane and Co., to join his brothers, Messrs. C. T. and Bruce Midlane, in tho North Co., Ltd., took up his new interests yesterday.
Mr. Norman Harper 8011, -tea merchant, died yesterday, slates a Dnnedin Press Association message. Ho took a prominent part in tho organisation of tho Otago Contingent for South Africa.
Mr. George Coward, aged BD, died at his homo at Blenheim (stales a Press Association telegram). Ho was a very old identity, having been sixty-five years in the colony. Ho was one of the first compositors in New Zealand, working in the Nelson "Examiner," and was ono of the founders of tho first newspaper in Marlborough (tho "Press"). Ho retired from active work twonty years ago.
