GIRL, HAT AND A HATPIN.

Miss Minnie Taylor, a young lady just out of her toons, is regarded as the heroine of tho yachting world of Melbourne (writes the Melbourne correspondent of tho "Telegraph"), because of the part she played in an episode on tho bay recently, tho details of which have just become, public property.

With a young man, liov Aubert, who owns tho motor-launch Hinomoa, Miss Taylor embarked for a run on the bay, the other occupants of tho launch being two youths. The weather was rather breezy, and when the boat got. some distance down tho wind roso and soon the launch was in difficulties. Tho steering dear carried away, the skylight over the engine, was washed away, and the portfolio glass was stove in by tho waves. Aubert had to take charge of tho tiller, and ho placed Miss Taylor in cliarge ot the engine. She worked hard looking afttr the lubrication and general running of tho engine, at the samo time doing all possible in keeping the. water baled out as. it came aboard. When the port glass was shattered, and water;-; began to pour into tho engine compartment, Miss" Taylor proved very resourceful, and she plugged up tho broach with her hat, using the much-despised hatpin to securely fasten her headgear in the hole. After n very bad time tho launch managed to make Mornington, where a crowd of excited yachtsmen greeted the buffeted boat and her very tired crow. When they cheered Miss Taylor for her plucky work, tho young lady, true to tho traditions of heroines, fainted.
