THORNDON ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH.
« • PRESENTATION TO FATHER PEOPLES. At Guildford Terrace last evening a six-horse-power motor bicyclo (twin cylinder, free engine, two-speed Victoria), costing ,£SS, was presented to the Rev. Father W. J. Peoples, S.M., by the parishioners of Thoriiuon, on tho occasion of his transference to Newtown. Tho presentation was made by Colonel Collins, M.G. (who occupied tho chair), on behalf :of tho parishioners,, and. in tho course of his remarks made eulogistic references to the qualities of Father Peoples as a priest and a man. Father Peoples, who was received with great, applause, thanked the people, most heartily fur tho handsome present, and for their kindness to him whilst stationed amongst them. The bicycle would always remind him of tho happy time ho spoilt amongst them. During, the evening musical items wore rendered by Misses Gibbs and Mosdames Clythe and Costollo, whilst Master Fergus Reeves contributed a humorous recitation. Before the proceedings terminated Councillor J. R. Fitzgerald, on bohnlf of the parishioners, extended n hearty welcome to tho Rev. Father C. J. Venning, S.M. Father l'coples's successor, and in tho course of his remarks congratulated Thomdon on securing the services of such an energetic priest, as Father Venning. Father Venning having briefly replied, tho meeting dispersed, after giving hearty cheers for the Rev. Fathers Peoples anil Venning, and Colonel Collins.
