Tho return showed nn increase of .457,611 for tho year 1912-13. 'I'lio value is ■£6(9,369. For tlio year 1910-11 it was =0555,132, the increase for tho past two years being ,1)124,237. The values for the year represent a capital value of ,£2,551,710, which; is easily a record among tho ccutres of tho Dominion. TIMARU AND TRAMWAYS. Timaru, April 18. Mr. F. Black, M.1.C.E., in his report to the Borough Council on the electric tramways proposals, speaks favourably of tho prospects of an installation within tho borough of two lines—north to south, and cast to west. Tho total distance is 6} miles. Ho estimates tho capital cost at .£57,062, the annual revenue at .£11,812, and tho annual expenditure at .£10,417.. Unless hydro-electricity can bo bad at £5 10s. por unit, it would be cheaper to use a Diesel oil engino at the power station. RATHER DEAR VOTES. Timaru, April 18. Tho Geraldine County Clerk reported to ■ tho council to-day that tho recent licensing. election had cost .£97 16s. 9d., or 3s. 2Jd. por vote, and there was only one hotel in tha district. populaFfunction. • ' Timaru, April 18. About 2000 people were present at tho ceremony of opening, the now road 'to Greenstone Island at tho mouth of the Opihi, whichi it is expected will become a popular picnic resort. It is situated fivo miles from Temuka. More people would no doubt have been present, but thoro wero not enough vehicles available. Besides opening up & popular resort tho road will also be of uso to Maori fishermen and anglers. Hitherto the v;ay to tho island lay partly through private property, but,,,with tlio .aid.flf ft .Government subsidy, tho road' line was bought through this, and the road formed. LEPER CURED. Christchurch, April 18. A leper patient has been released from the station at Quail Island, being cured, THE GREEN ISLAND TROUBLE. Dunedin, April 18. Tho dispute between tho miners and Christie Bros., arising out of tho condition of tho trucking roads in the lattor's milio at Green Island, was settled to-day. Tho miners asked that tho condition of tho trucks 1)6 improved, or that additional truckers bo put on, or a crosscut driven. Ths owners started to improvo the tracks, but tho miners refused to work until that work was completed. This had now been dono, and, at a meeting of tho union to-night, it was decided that the men resumo work in tho moraing. MAYORAL ELECTIONS. Hastings, April 18. Mr. James Garnett has been re-elected as Mayor. Waipawa, April 18. Mr. W. I. Limbrick has been returned unopposed for tho fifth timo as Mayor. Ashburton, April 18. Henry Davis has been re-elected unopposed as Mayor for tho tenth successive year.
