The "Wellington Racing Club's autumn meeting opens at 'Irentham to-day, when the principal events to be decided arc (he Thompson Handicap, otru mile; the North island Chalk'iij»o Stakes, seven furlongs; and the liailway Handicap, six furlongs. At the tiino of writing, Iho weal her prospects are nut good, but the racing track and the grounds are in jiich capital order that they will only bo affected if very heavy rain lulls. The grass gallop inside the rails was open for fast work, and afforded excellent going, while trainers also had the use of the tan and sand tracks. Nearly all the candidate for tho Thompson Handicap were exercising. Los Angolos, who did not put in an appearance until after breakfast, ran home trom the half-mile post in Slsec, and finished very well. Undecided (R. Hatch) was associated with Merry Frank (C. Jenkins)'and Sir Solo (light boy) in a gallop over six furlongs. Merry Frank got the best of tho start, but Sir Solo on the outside finished in front, and covered the distance in lmin. l'Jsec, Undecided being close up and ahead of Merry Frank. Boanerges (A. Oliver) and Bronzo (G. Price) finished together at the end of seven furlongs, run in lmin. 32 l-'jsec. Dearest (B. Effort was sent out to gallop five furlongs with Mira, but the pair finished at easy pace, and it was then noticed that Effort was bleeding freely at the nose—a return of her old complaint. Sea Queen (W. Price) hopped off at the fix furlong ]Tost, and was picked up by Lanibton at the half-mile. ' The pair finished toeethor, Sea Oueen, who was shaping well, covering the tull distance in lmin. 18 3-ssec. Merrivonia (W. Ryan) did useful work. Khamsin (W. Price) covered a mile in lmin. 40 2-ssec.. but did not appear to finish verv well. One of tho best gallops of the morning was that recorded by Aurumnus (Emerson) and Heathcrbrae (F. E. Jones), who were companions over six. furlongs. Autummis, on the outside, finished in front, and covered the distance in lmin. 1G 4-ssec Styx (Telford) and Stepney (Deeley) ran four furlongs together in 51sec. Jan finished in front of Dirge over a similar distanco covored in similar time. Glcnfinnan and Brown Owl both moved nicely over five furlongs, run in lmiu. 5 2-ssec. Masterpiece, who had tho inside running, finished slightly in front of Counterfeit at the end of a mile, covered in Iniin. 43 4-ssec. This was a most attractive gallop. Blakeney (A. Oliver), alone, ran six furlongs in lmin. 19sec, and was tiring at the finish. A really good gallop was that by Ohinee (W. Price) and Ineuru (C. Emerson), who rattled over four furlongs in n tick under 51sec. Inouru, on tho outside, held her companion apparently safe. Theodore ran the last six furlongs of a mile in lmin. 20sec. Culprit did strong three-quarter pacf, and sprinted home over ■ the last parr, while Bandeira, who bounded down the hack of the course in great stylo, sprinted homo over the last three furlongs in 39sec. ' Bon Ton and Bon Soir covered half a mile together in 51sec. Distinction and To Waharoa finished together at the end of five furlongs, run in lmin. 5 4-ssec. Dorando easily defeated Zante over a mile in lmin. 50 4-ssec. Stourton did two rounds nt a strong three-quarter pace, and sprinted homo in good style over tho last three furlongs.
