CAPTAIN AMUNDSEN.
APPEARS.ON WEDNESDAY NEXT.
Tho intrepid conqueror of tho South Pole, Captain Roald Amundsen, will tell the thrilling story of. his successful dash for the southern cap of the earth, which he reached on December 14 last, to tho people of Wellington at the lown Hall on Wednesday, April 24, when his absorbing subject wi'll be illustrated by over 100 coloured plates and moving films, which were taken'by himself right through the perilous journey. When first invited by Professor Coleridge Fair, of Christchurch, and others to visit New Zealand, Captain Amundsen replied that he considered that New Zealand was Captain Scott's field, just as he agreed with Scott's agent to give priority to Captain Scott in England last year, if ho should succeed in reaching trie Pole, which now seems fairly certain, Cantain Amundsen will, accordingly take America first, postponing his English visit until after Captain Scott has finished his lecturing tour there. But as soon as it became known that Captain Scott would not return' to Now Zealand this vear. Captain Amundsen allowed himself to be persuaded to include the Dominion in his tour of one month for all Australasia. Tho length of the tour cannot be extended as Captain Amundsen is booked to sail by the Remuera for Buenos Ayres. It is therefore only possible to give four lectures in New Zealand —one each in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The films taken by Captain Amundsen himself are so exceptional that the principal moving picture companies, including Spencer and Pathe, have negotiated for the world's rights, but Captain Amundsen has declined all these offers, preferring to retain them for his lectures alone. Tho tour is under the direction of Mr. Garlylo Smythe, and tho advance manager is Mr. Geo. Vcsey Allen, a Melbourne journalist. Tho box plan.will be opened at Holliday'e on Saturday, April 20.
