■(From Our Special Correspondents.) Masterton, April 16. Mr. J. G. Wilson, president of tho Farmers' Union, is to deliver an address on "Plant Breeding," under the auspices of the Masterton A. and P. Association on Saturday afternoon. Mr. T. (i. Hoar, who intends contesting the Mayoralty of tho borough with Mr. J. M. Coradine, has resigned his position as 'a councillor! Building operations in the Masterton district arn fairly .animated jT.st now, and several important contracts arc about to be let. The Annual meeting of the Masterton Collie Club was held on Saturday evening, Mr, A. M'Olay, occupying the chair. Mr. H. H. Beetham was re-elected president. Mr. W. L. Falconer was elected secretary, and Mr. G. C. Summerpll treasurer. The committee, met after the annual meeting, and arranged a programme for tlie trials, which are to be held on May 23, 24, and '25. Messrs. H. H. Beetham and- K. F. K. Beetham him ca;h contributed £o towards tho funds of the club. ' Members of the Girls' Friendly Society Rave an excellent entertainment in St. Matthew's Schoolroom last evening. At the-monthly meeting of the Lansdowne School Committee last evening, the headmaster reported the average attendance for the first two weeHs of. the,quarter to have been 175 out of a roll number of 215. The attendance had bocn somewhat affected by a prevailing children's epidemic. The revised electoral roll of the Masterton Borough contains the names of 3491 voters. During the last two weeks, 5759 sheep and,s'2sß lambs have been* slaughtered at. the Waingara freezing works. The physical culture and gymnasium classes in connection with tho Masterton branch of the Y.M.G.A. opened last night with a very fair attendance. The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Masterton Lodge, 1.0.0. F., was .held last evening, Bro. C. Perry, K.G., occupying the chair. One new member took the first degree and another was proposed.
