HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL,

Councillors .T. AVakoham (chnirmun), AY. Galloway. T. Edwards, J. \Yhitcmun, M. -AV. Welch, and AY. J. Howcll were present at the monthly nientiiig of the lititt County Council held- yesterday morning. The. inspector of works reported that tho C'ottle to Normiindale Road had been ecmpleted in a satisfactory manner. The Plimmerton-Pahauta-nui Road had been ;netalled for a distance of 22 chains since last: meeting. This completed the entire length of the road between those two places. The Coronation HallatParemaUi'was completed, the work having been faithfully carried out. All the roads in tho AYainui Yallcy were now in good order. The lamp-posts and most of the material required for lighting l'araparaumu and Paekakariki had been procured, and a start would have been made with their erection, but for tho accident which had happened to the foreman. Tho Mungarea-Upper Hutt Bridge'was Hearing completion, and would have been finished but for the intervention of the Easter holidays. . The report was adopted.

On lwlialf of Mr. J. H. Pressor. Messrs. Jlovison ami M'Leaii wrote protesting against (he route of the Pukenin-Paoka-kariki Eoad traversing liis (Mr. Prosser's) property, and asking' that it lje deviated. Councillor Wakebani was appointed to inquire into and report on tho matter. Mr. liaing-Meason reported that the cost of a bridge across the' Hutt River on thn Pahautamii-Upppr Hutt lioad would be ,Cias3. It was decided that the necessary steps bo taken for the taking of a poll over a special rating area, comprising portions of the Mungaroa and Hovokhvl Hidings, on the question of whether or not a loan should be raised for the purpose. On the motion of Councillor Galloway, the following scale of rates of pay were fixed:—Permanent hands, Bs. Gd. per day; casual hands, Bs. Gd.; foreman over three or more men, 9s. Gd.; horse and cart, 13s. Gd.; each extra horse, ss.
