Tho question of the selection of the pictures to be bought out of the funds now being iais«d is ono that has frequently boon asked. Tho matter was considered at a meeting of tho council of the .Academy of Fine Arts, which has promoted and organised the present campaign, and it was decided, by resolution, to ask Mr. 11. S Wardell, ex-president ot the Academy, and Dr. Fyfle and »r. Hay to act with the council in making tho selection. It is also proposed, as theso pictures aro destined for the National Art Gallery, to invite tho Art Societies of Auckland, Christchurch, and Duncdin to nominate a representative to co-operate with the local selection committee. There need bo no fear, therefore, in the mind of tho public •is to the selection of the pictures that are ultimately to adorn tho walls of the National Gallery. Tho donations to unto are :— £ s. d. On the motion of tho chairman (Mr. A. K. Mnbin), the following resolution was passed by tho Council of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday:— "That a letter be sent to all members of the Chamber calling on them to support the movement now afoot to found a National Art Gallery, urging them to subscribe liberally to the,fund, and reouesting thorn to send their donations to tho secretary of tho chamber.' On tho motion of the chairman, it was rc'olvecl to donate the sum ot £2o towards the National Gallery Fund.
