MASTERTON NOTES.

Masterton, April 15. The motion of Mr. C. F. Vallanco, in favour of establishing a lifo membership in connection with the Masterton A. and P. Association, was not absolutely carried at the meeting on Saturday last. Tho expressions of opinion were generally in favour of the proposal, and the matter w;as ultimately referred to the Finance Committee i'or n report. The Easter pairs tournament in connection with the Masterton Bowling Club was concluded on the local green on Saturday, and was won by Bealo and Staples, after a clofo contest.

A young-bird Derby race was flown by the Masterton Homing Pigeon Club from Blenheim on Saturday Inst. The day was not favourable to fast times. Tho winner tunned up in Mr. G. J'ember's "Drasoon," which did tho diatanco in 3hrs. 18min. .

A sum of £3-1 hns been subscribed in Masterton towards the fund for tho relief of women and children who are starving in England. . The card of E. Perry was the beat handerf in on Saturday in tho lx>gey competition in connection with the Mastorton Golf Club. An application for the use of the Solwny showgrounds for a territorial encampment has been refused, as the grounds have bciv.i let by the association for grazing purposes.
