* GENERAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of tho General Committee of the. Mastei'ton A. and I'. Association was held on Saturday, there being present: Messrs. H. Morrison (president), H. Evans, IF. J. I)a«g. ]•;. C. Perry, R..J. Dagg, \Y. H. Buick, J). Foreman, E. G. Allen, AV. Perry, G. C. Summerell, G. P. Perry, J. 11. James, G. Shaw, 11. Gray, A. D. M'Master, C. F. Yallancc, A. J. Percy, 11. A. -Matthews, B. Kayner, D. M'Gregor, E. Harper, 0.-C. Cooper, D. Caselberg, Q. Donald, W. J. V.'elch, J. B, Moodie, and J. C. M'Killop. The report of the meeting held to consider the question of holding a ploughing match in connection with the association was read. This recommended that; in view of the forthcoming stock fair, tho ploughing matches he deferred for this year. The president reported that the canvass 011 behalf of the proposed s.tock fair was proving highly successful, and it was hoped that a large sum of money would be raised. The Old, Old Grievance, Mr. J. I!. Macdonahl, of Levin, in forwarding a. cheque in connection with horse loose-hoses, complained that the train arrangements for the show were very bad. Kb expressed the hope that the railway facilities for tho next show would be improved.—On the motion of .Mr. I). Caselljcrg, it wars decided to thank .Mr. Macdonald lor his letter, and to inj'orm. him that efforts would be made to improve the arrangements lor next show. -Mr. P. C. Fowler, of Mangamahoe, wrote, congratulating the association upon the admirable geneial arrangements at the late show.—i!ee:'iv-.'d. The .secretary oi I lu Masterton Technical Hclioo! asked for the co-operation of the association i.u the mutter of establishing veterinary classes in connection with the school.—The secretary slated that he, had already written the Technical School managers, offering every assistance in tho way of procuring pupils. ' . The secretary of the Mannwn'u A. and I'. Association advised that Messrs. J. 0. 3jatehelor and lialsillie wciv going to England. and suggesting that.-tliey'represent the Mastcrhjn Association at the meeting of the National Khcopbrcedors' Association.—lt was pointed out that Mr. .James Sturko.v had previously represented this association at the conference.—On tho motion of Mr. \V. Perry, it was decided that Me.-srs. Sliicke.v and Balehelor he appointed delegates of the Masterton Association to the conference. The Otago A. and P. Association asked for co-operation in a movement to secure legislation for the suppression of the u-e of pea-rilles.—Several members agreed as to the evils attending the indiscriminate use of the pea-ride, bu' Ihe opinion was expressed that it would be difficult to flame legislation to ileal with the mal-ter.--The le'ler was rereived. Mr. Paul Hunter was Ihiinkerl for refund of his judging fees. Miss Pattle, of I'eathei'ston, wrote, claiming a sum of ,£1 in payment for 1 an overcoat which had been placed in th?
ladies' cloak-room, and had been 1 o>t. —31 was [minted out that no charge had been made for the u-e of the cloak-room.—Oil Ihe motion of Mr. Perry, it was decided 11> pay the amount claimed, and lo a-!: Ilic caretaker of the cloak-room for an explanation. Nine new members were elected. Ground Committee. Tlia report of the meeting of Ilia Ground Comimltee, at which Mr. li. Gray presided, was read. The action of the chairman in accepting Mr. K. .1. Dags's lender of £32 Ills, for gracing Solwav to December 31. was endorsed. A request of the caretaker for permission to use a paddock (about'live ,-icres) across the railway. line was acceded to. The caretaker submitted a list of necessary works on tho grounds—lt was resolved to recommend tile planting of a hedge at each cud of the grandstand and lawn, ami that the matter he placed in Ihe hands of Messrs. R. Gray, \V. Perry, mid E. Hale. Finance. The Finance Committee's report was read. The financial position was shown to be as follows:—Debit balance on March, £37fj Ss. 9d.; expenditure for month, £187-} ■Is. 2d; receipts for the month, ,£551 7s. Gd.; debit balance at dale, JJi">(i2 12s. Id. Accounts amounting to .£27 10s. Sd. were recommended for payment. The receipts for the year, including, a loan of JMfIOO, were shown to bo i£7lS-t 2s. sd. These embraced entry fees', .C-17-t Cs.; donations, 41-482 lis. 9d.; members' subscriptions, ,£970 10s.; revenue fees, 7-13 Ms. Id.; ram fair fees, .12U(j lis.; sundries, £230 9s. 7d. Life Memberships, The society decided, on the motion of Mr. C. F. Yallanco, to establish life memberships on payment of a lump sum of ,£lO. It was stated that a considerable number had already expressed their iiitenlion of becoming life members, and it is hoped by this means to wipe off the bank overdraft of ,£2OOO. Some are born rich, some achieve prosperity, and some have wealth thrust upon tiicm. The Factory. Manager who insials "Victor" appliances will achieve success, and the shareholders will have profits thrust upon them.
