PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston N., April 13. The annual meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Football Union was held last night, when there was a very large attendance of delegates, and the president, Mr. A. N. Gibbons presided. The annual balance-sheet showed a credit balance of .£24 Is. Bd., on the ordinary account, and of ,£6O on the accident insurance account. The report made particular reference to the new district fell bine which had just been adopted. The ensuing season, it was stated, promised to be highly successful, and the change was being taken up with enthusiasm. The new by-laws to work the district scheme wero adopted, and the following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. E. D. Hoben; president, Mr. A. N. Gibbons, vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. F. Manning, H. M'Mauaway, and J. A. Pawson; secretary, Mr. W. M'Kcnzie; treasurer, Mr. B. J. Jacobs; lion, surgeon, Dr. Peach; auditor, Mr. S. J. Watson; management committee, Messrs. J. F. Pickett; C. M'William, H. Jarvis, A. Greathead, A. Torstonson, W. Robinson, and N. Campbell; accident insurance fund committee, Messrs. Manning (secretary), Pawson, and M'Manaway; vice-president. N.Z. Rugby Union, ilr. A. N. Gibbons; delegates to N.Z.R.F.U., Mesrs. .I.E. Manning and S. Fowler; trustees accident insurance fund, Messrs. Manning and Jacobs. It was left to (he management committee to arrange for the opening of the season.
At a meeting of tho committee of tho Manawatn Hunt Club last night. Mr. Joseph Shaw was appointed Huntsman, and it was decided to open the season with a meet at Palinerston on Saturday next.
The Palmerslon Brass Band played a programme of music at tho hospital this afternoon.
The annual Harvest Thanksgiving service* in connection with All Saints' and St. Peter's Churches were held to-dav. There were large 1 congregations at the services, and both churches were nicely decorated.
Mr. J. Ilayiis. manager at Messrs. f'olev and Hock's flaxmiH at Fonloii. has invented an improved llax-slripper. It is stated that the new idea will enable the feeder lo put through a very much greater quantity of green leaf per hour, and will reduce the nuisance of "towing uii" the spindles to a minimum.
