WANGANUI JOTTINGS.
(By Telcera ph.-Special Correspondent.) _ , Wanganui, April 12. Word was received in town to-dny of a sad fatal accident last evening at Ngamatanouri, the victim being Mrs. W. G. Smith, a recent arrival from the Old Country, who was married only six weeks ago. It appears that Mrs. Smith wns out riding, and fell from her horse, striking tho bank at tho side. of the road. Fatal injuries ensued. Rival harbour works extension schemes lvero discussed by tho Waußanui County Council to-day, with the result th'at it was decided to support a proposal to borrow ■£100,000, as against a more ambitious quarter-million loan. Tho leading feature of the more modest proposal is tnc dredging of a deeper channel to town in place of the construction of a deep-water harbour at C'astlecliff and extending the sea moles.
