MOTION BY COUNCILLOR FLETCHER

Councillor Hotelier has given notice to move at the next meeting of tlie City Council:—"That the small parcel of corporation land adjacent to the Wellington Naval Uoiitslieds, oil the waterfront, be utilised for tho purpa.se of a fish market, and the city engineer bo instructed to prepare plans and furnish estimates of tho cost of a suitable and inexpensive structure for tho better distribution of fish." The above suggestion is a revival of one' made vcars ago to have fish markets- on the site now occupied by the Rowing Club sheds. There was, however, suc/i opposition to tho scheme that it was abandoned. Now it is proposed by the chairman of the Harbour Board to close up that open bit of harbour front which hes between tho end of the .levvois Quay staging and the Naval Boatshod with a building suitable for a fish market. The land lias a water frontage of about JSft., widening landward to 30ft.,, and has a depth of 2titt. Captain Eckford has intimated that he will run another trawler, in addition to the Energy, if reasonable facilities for landing and handling the fish are provided.
