MR. ATMORE'S POSITION.

Sir,—That versatile gentleman, Jlr. A. A. Grace, who endeavours in Saturday's issue to answer the letter signed "Let ttie i'l-ulli Prevail," has very innocently let liie cat out ot lliu bag. "It is leit to one lute niyseli," writes Mr. Grace, "wiio, as everyone in Helton Knows, am not support Air. Atmore's camliuature, to oiucitiate tue lacts, and so 'let the truth prevail.'" "Everyone in Neison knows," All'. Editor, that Jlr. A. A. Urace is a strong Government supporter; and the tact ol' his i>emg u Government supporter is the reason, or one reason at least, why lie not only "did not support Mr. Atmore's candidature," but somewhat bitterly opposed "Jlr. Atmore's candidature." By all means "let the truth prevail," but let it be the wliolo (ruth. Mr. Graco and "I'lio Colonist," which lie quotes, both relieved prior to the second ballot that Ufr. Atmore would vote 'lor the Opposiion. "The Colonist," our Government iapor, classed Hi'. Atinore as Independent Jpposition, which fuels do not altogether )ear out the laboured effort of our niodirn Diogenes to let what he calls "the :rutli" prevail. Your correspondent put the case fairly ind truly; .Mr. Atmore did as your correspondent stated, and in that way ha iecured election with Opposition support. L'ho (ruth, and the whole (ruth, will pre■ail, and the election soon to bo will irove wlint" Nelson electors think of Mr. Umoris 1 conipliment "Let tlio Truth I'revail" upon his clear and logical statement of Mr. Atmore's position to tho Notion electorate.—l am, etc., NOT A SPHINX. Nelson, March 25. Sir,—l have. noticed your note under Mr. Grace's letter slating that you have received "a lengthy letter from Jlr. William lx>ck and another extremely long jne from Mr. 11. M'Artjiey on the same lines as Mr. Grace's." Now, 1 can scarcely see (ho fairness in excluding my letter, which was a reply to one of nearly a column's length lttncking Mr. Atmore in a most unwarrantable manner, and under a nom-de-plume. Tho letter contained inaccuracies and false statements not referred to in Sir. Grace's letter. It certainly seems very unfair to allow a man about 20 inches space to vilify another (and that under a nom-de-plume), and only allow about nine inches of space for a writer, who signs his letter to reply to the accusations. Mr; Grace did not refer to vour correspondent's statements "that Mr. Atmore had sold the electors," "that in another conteit lie would come a bad second to Jlr. Jlolfatt." and that "tho Opposition spirit placed Mr. Atmore at the head of tho poll," and other inaccurate statements. Jlr. Atmore will shortly address the electors, and will allow any elector to occupy 15 minutes on his platform to give his reasons why Jlr. Atmore should have cast his voto in favour of the Opposition. As I understand your paper has a oousiderablo circulation in this electorate, I hope that in bare justice to Jlr. Atmore that ,vou will insert this short letter—l am, etc., WILLIAM LOCIC, Chairman of Jlr. Atmore's late Election Committee. Nelson, 25th Jlarch. [We willingly insert this letter, but we cannot allow that there was any unfairness in selecting Mr. Grace's letter for publication. It. covered all the material points in dispute.]
