THE CABINET.

Sir,—The new Cabinet has come in for general condemnation, but truly, as the Christchurch "Press" says, the cream of the joko is the appointment'of Mr. J. Colvin as Minister for Mines. There is only one man on the Liberal side of the House qualified for the position, and that is Mr. H. Poland, M.P. for Ohinemuri. The feeling here is that Mr. Poland ha 3 been shabbily treated. Perhaps he has been too independent in the past. There is good reason for thinking that Mr. Poland will be tho Minister for Mines when Mr. Massey forms his Cabinet next July. A man of Mr. Poland's ability cannot remain long with a dead party.—l am, etc., WAIHI.
