'HIS NORTH AUCKLAND TRIP. His Excellency the Governor (Lord Islington), accompanied by Lady Islington, the Hon. Joan Poynder, Misa Stapleton Cotton, Colonel 11. lioscawen, A.D.C., and Captain Escourt, A.D.C., returned to Auckland in the Government steamer Hinemoa on Saturday morning from a trip to the North of Auckland. Tho cruise, was marked br unfavourable weather, and a rough sea. made the return to Auckland particularly uncomfortable. As the result of the latter part of the trip Lady Islington was too indisposed to go out on Saturday. Notwithstanding tho bad weather the party enjoyed the cruise very much, and found , a'great deal of interest in the picturesque and historic surroundings of the places visited. Tho journey was scheduled out from tho beginning. Tho first place visited was Whangarei, with a trip to tlio Kamo Springs and other Eoints of interest. Hikurungi and Knvraawa were seen, and the party then went to Opua, where they rejoined the Hinemoa. Russell was visited on Wednesday, nnd the special interest attaching to tho first capital of the Dominion was appreciated by personal acquaintance wi.th its historic landmarks. From Russell tho party returned to Auckland, after a .week's absence. Lord Islington attended the races on Saturday. In the evening he opened the Feds for the extinction of tho debt on the Romau Catholic Cathedral. To-day ho sill lay the foundation-stono of the new ST.M.C.A. building nt the corner of Coburg and Wellesley Streets, Auckland. In tho evening a dinner party will be held at Government House. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, April 9. The Governor was the guest of the Foresters' Lodge at a banquet to-night.
