UNCOMFORTABLE HOTELS.
COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS' COMPLAINTS. By Telegraph—Preta Association—Copyrlsht Launceston, April 8. . At the annual conference of the United Commercial Travellers' Association, a discussion in regard to the association's position in New Zealand resulted in tho carrying of a resolution that a reciprocal arrangement in regard to entree to clubs may be arranged, in, tho hope that it may result in a closer bond of union.
Another resolution was adopted as follows:—"That as the licensing laws, of different States are tending to reduce the number of hotels, to the detriment of the comfort and convenience of the travelling public, the conference recommends its official organ, 'The Australasian Traveller,' to make a stand through its columns against any further reduction in the number of hotels." In the course of the discussion, two New Zealand delegates, Messrs. M'Pherson and Mitchell, reported that there had been a marked influence for the worse with reference to accommodation for the travelling public. The position might improve as conditions adjusted themselves, but at present the inconvenience waa very serious. Mr. M'Pherson, president of the Dunedin Commercial Travellers' Association, was elected president of the United Association for the ensuing year. The next conference waa fixed to be held at Dunedin next Easter.
