[Br Glencoe.] Tho following are the probable starters and their riders in the Great Easter Handicap, of 1000 sovs., seven furlongs, to be run at Eiccarton to-day:—Bronze (A. Oliver), (Ist. 31b.; Dearest (H. Telford), flst; lioyal Scotch (E. LoWe), Bst. 131b.; Gipsy- Belle (G. J. Pine), Bst. 121b. ; Masterpiece (Y. E. Jones), Bst. 71b.; Culprit (W. Latest advices state that Royal Scotch, the favourite, has bruised his heel, and, as a consequenca, hns receded somewhat in the market. Ho, however, pulled up sound after his galiop on Saturday. Distinction, who is engaged in the Shorts (four furlongs) at the Tauherinikau meeting to-day, was credited with, running half a. mile on his owner's private track in (Ojec. This would account for the solid, support accorded him on Saturday, when he ran second to Semaphore. Though defeated. General Latum- put up a really good performance in tho Easter Handicap at Elletslio, and it was no disgrace lo go under to n smart mare like Kakiima, to whom the coif was endeavouring to concede two years nnd 301b. Jacamar, who won the A..T.C. St. Leger on Saturday, is full-brother to Poseidon. To-day at Wnipukurau Eocene, will run for the last lime in tho colours of the Hon. .T. D. Ormond. She has been sold to the Napier owner-trainer, J. M'Loughliu. It is a very weak field which opposes the filly to-day. Wolawa's victory in the Sires' Produce Stakes at Eandwick on Saturday places him at th? head of the list of winning two-year-olds in Australia for tho current season. Mr. J. Ani's will have a fresh representative at Tauherinikau in (he speedy Lady Kilcheran, who is engaged in the Mor'oa Mack Handicap, of seven furlongs. The Winton "Eocord" reports that it is intended lo lake Mr. 11. Harding'* lienznwnn fUeiiznin—Wattle Bird) lo Au-lra-lin. nt. an early tlatc. San Plum "ill eonl'--) Ihn big handicap at the Wairarapa meeting to-day. and not the Welter as on Saturday. The bar mare does not s?om to show up when ridden bv light, boyp. nn'l probaM.T her stable companion, Ariom (Sst, Bib.), will finish ia Moat of twii

The J-"'eilding meeting, which opens today, only requires fiun weather to ensure its success Proceedings will commence with the Hack race (weight Bst.) of live lurlongs and a half. The field contains the names of one ur two likely hacks, and also Lady Volga, for whose purchase a. well-known Australian buyer has lately been negotiating, and who is likel'v to start favourite. Galtee, who has done ii lot of racing of late, and is in consequence more seasoned I hon the other horses, should run very prominently. Lust: week ho was timed to niu five furlongs in imin. Sisoc. on the Haweru track. Gladiolc, list., who will have K. Hatch's services „, the saddle, will strip well in he Hying Handicap, and p 0 will Ineurit (<st. 1.i1b., ... Price), whom mnnv think is tho speediest hack in the Dominion. Among other runners at the meeting are Captain Stevens in the Open Hurdles, and Seaman and Cornelian in the l-loek Hurdles. All the events will be contested by big holds, and wear a verv open appearance. The Sydney Cup, of 4000 sovs., two miles, h the principal race to be decided at Randwick to-day. At the Auckland Racing Club's Autumn meetingto-day, Counterfeit will endeavour to win tho Great Northern Oaks for Sir Geo. Clifford, who has not so far owned a winner of that event. A southern writer says that the trotting horso Rory must 1m writen down as one of tho "good things" picked up at a small figure. His present owjier paid £i 2 for him, and since then the horse has won nearly .£SOO in stakes, besidos which he is used as a hack in the off season. True Blue, who won both the' crosscountry events at the Dunedin meeting last year, will be a competitor in tho Great Western Steeplechase at Riverton to-dny. Lady Medallist was favourite for tho Doncaste'r Handicap when the last mail left Australia, and as she .afterwards showed capital form on the track, it is probable that she maintained her position in tho market right up till the start. Her defeat would add another to tho long list of beaten favourites in the Doncaster. Wakeful headed the quotations when she won in 1901, but each of the ten favourites since that year failed its supporters, while the winners have included such "rough 'uns" as Chore Amie, Famous, Hyman, and Togo. Appended are tho names of the past ten favourites:—l9o2, Vanity Fair (nowhere); 1903. Sir Leonnrd (nowhere); 1904, Playaway (third); 1995, Marvel Loch (nowhere); iflOfi, Maniapoto 'nowhere); 1907, Waudin (second) ' and North Head (nowhere); 1908, Maranui (nowhere); 1909, Irishman (second); 1910, Blue Book (nowhere); 1911, Bright Laddio (nowhere).
