Though tho Manawatu Golf Club's link* •it Hokowhitu are now open for players, it is not expected' that tho oiiicia.! opening will take place till May. As a matter of fact a number of players have kept tho gamo going right through tho summer. Captain Haydon, a •member of tho Borough Council and an ex-Mayor, was entertained at a smoke concert last night. There was a largo attendance, and tho Mayor presided. A largo number of those present testified to the public spirit and good qualities of Captain llaydon, mid during the evening ho was pw-sbntod with a handsome gold watch chain pendant, suitably inscribed, and also a deck cushion from the Mayoress and ladies of Palmerston. Tho toasts of tho "Guest of the even, ing," "Trado and commerce," "Palmerfiton and district," were honoured. Captain Haydon left to-day oii a trip to England. Tho annual mooting of tho Mniiaw.il < Hockey Association was held last nig!, Sir. 11. It. Cooper in (ho chair.
