Talbot, of tho Duncdin telegraph staff, has been promoted to bo officer in charge at Christchurch, vice Mr. Martin, retired on pension.—Press Association. All tho Ministers aro in town except Mr. Laurenson, who went south last evening. Mr. Edgar W. Walker, superintendent of the New Zealand Insurance Company, was lately on a visit to Sydney, and a Sydney paper publishes the following biographical note.-—"Mr. Walker's father, Dr. J. W. Walker, brought the family to Australia in 1.850, settling near Camden, New South Wales. Mr. Walker was educated at tho late Judge Wilkinson's Academy, at Enfield, am! at. tho Sydney Grammar School. After some commercial experience in Sydney he went to Auckland, where he was associated with shipping and insurance business. In 187-t ho was appointed manager for Queensland of tho New Zealand Insuranco Company, and a few years ago was given tho still more responsible position of superintendent for tho same company throughout Australasia and Tasmania.

Mr. Fletcher Christian Nobbs, one of the. oldest inhabitants of Norfolk Island, died at his homo at Ixingridgo, on the evening of March .1. The Norfolk Island correspondent of (ho Auckland "Herald" writes:—"Mr. Xobljs had long been ailing, end his death was not unexpected. Ho was born on Piteairn Island 78 years ago, and was the eldest son of the Into Rev. George Hnnn Nobbs, so ,long intimately connected with Hint island. The deceased was held in high esteem, and under the old regime, held the office of Chief Magistrate for two yenrs, mid in years gone bv. before the. change, was n big factor in island affairs: he leaves a large grown-up family, besides numerous KM ml nnd great-grandchildren.
