PALMERSTON BAY BY DAY.
(By TeleEraph.-Prcss A-.i-oeiation.! Palmerston N., April 1. There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting ot the ifanawatu Hunt on Saturday afternoon. Mr. S. P. Lancaster (president) occupied tho chair. The annual report stated that the past season had been most successful from even- point of view. Over fifty hunts were held throughout the district, and tho hounds also met twice in Wellington. The annual steeplechase meeting and tho ball, held under tne auspices of the club, had proved successful beyond (he most sanguine expectations. The membership had materially increased, and was now well over two hundred. Financially, the hunt was in u verv sound position, tho assets (including cash in the bank) being ,1:200 more than the liabilities, the latter being only .1:29. The appointment of a huntsman was left to the ncwlyelecf.cd romhiittee. Air. F. E. B. Lovelock intimated that he would give £i 2s. as a prize, to go to tho best rider in hunters' competition for the Collinsoii-Ciiu-ninghaine Challenge Cup at the coming AVint'er Show atj'almcrstoii. It was resolved to join the Sports Protection League. Messrs. Alfred Peifcrt and H. AVollerman have definitely announced themselves as candidate's for the vacant seat on the Palmerston Boron-rh Council, caused by the resignation of Mr. V. J. Nathan, who is standing for the Mayoralty. It is expected there will be five or six other candidates for the vacancy.

The Palmerston vital statistics for March are:—Births, 3S; deaths, 0; marriages, 11. Mr. X Porter, of Koputaroa. who sustained rather serious injuries through a fall from his motor cycle in Palmerston on Friday afternoon, is making (rood progiess towards recovery in a private hospital here. At the beginning of March Ihcre were, fiirty-four patients in the Palmerston Hospital. Sixty-six were admitted during tho monlh, and fifty-nine were discharged. Two died. There are now forty-nim in the hospital. A proud member of the Palmerston police force has been presented by his good wife with triplets. At the 'Police Court, to-day. before Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., Charles William Burns and Angus Sydney Burns were charged with having stolen eight bushels of oats, valued at .X'l, Ihe property of the Borough Council. Counsel for accused pleaded guilty, and staled I hat one r.f them had been under the influence of liquor, and had taken tho oats against the will of the other. The police reported that Charles William Burns had been before the Court once before, but since then had behaved himself very well. He had seven children, one of whom was in (ho hospital. IU» was convicted and sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labour, a prohibition order (0 issue against him. Angus Burns was lined .£5, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. In connection with those cases, Arthur Stevenson was charged with having been the receiver of some oafs; knowing the same to have been stolen. His Worship said he was satisfied that the defendant knew the goods to have been stolen, and convicted and fined accused ):■>, with costs, in default fourteen davs' hard labour. Adolph ('inldfiiic.li, for a breach of a maintenance order, wis sentenced lo :■ month's hard labour in the Auckland Gaol. An inebriate arrested in Palmerston on Saturday was fiund to have between ,£lO and JC.'iO in his possession.
