(Before Mr.. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) CHARGE OF ILL-TREATMENT. A young married woman named Margaret" Williams brought a charge of assault against her husband, Ueorgo WilMr.'j. J. M'Grath appeared for the complainant, and Mr. P. W. Jackson for the defendant. . Mrs. Williams gave evidence ot illtreatment, which, she alleged, she had' suffered at her husband's hands. The defence was a general denial of the allegations with counter-charges' of insobrietv. The rase was adjourned till V\ cdnesday for further evidence. IDLE AND DISORDERLY. John White was charged -with being idle and disorderly. "Do you plead guilty or not guilty?" the clerk asked him. "I have just come down from the Terrace Gaul," he exclaimed. "Do you plead guilty or not guilty?" "Of what?" "Of having insufficient means of support." "I have sufficient means of support. I have work to go to." Station-Sergeant Darby said that this was the man who went to the police station and asked to be arrested because ho was suffering from the results of insobriety. His Worship convicted White, and ordered him to appear for sentence when called on, and issued a prohibition order against him. PROHIBITED PERSONS. William Brew was. fined .63 for a breach of his prohibition order. His oxcuso was that he thought the order had just expired. I'or the fourth breach of his prohibition order Joseph Thomas Barrett was fined £i. and was warned that he was shaping his course for Roto Roa. For entering a hotel while prohibited, I James Alexander Japp was lined -63. Charges of accompanying Josepli Pitch into a hotel while knowing that Fitch was prohibited were made against Henry James Jackson and Archibald West. The Court dismissed the charges, on tho ground Hint there was no evidence that Iho defendants had accompanied Fitch into the lintel. Mr. E. M. Siaddcn appeared for all the defendants. IN HOTELS ON SUNDAY. James Smith and .Tames'llowker were each fined 10s. for being on hotel premises on Sunday. March 17. Bowkor was, in addition, lined ss. for giving a wrong name when arrested.
