MOUNT HECTOR TRACK.
THROUGH TRIP FROM OTAKI TO GRI3YTOWN. The through trip from Ofaki to Greytown across the ranges has been altempled several times by llr. AY. 11. Field, Into SI.P. for (Iraki, and nur Greytawn correspondent states that Mr. Field has nowsucceeded. Mr. Field's party consisted of himself and Messrs. K. C. Asian,. Chief Chemist of the Department of Agriculture; E. Atkinson, Assistant Chemisl; and F. Penii, of the "Olnki Mail." The party started from Wellington on Friday eveningj and got to the Otiiki Gorge that evening, leaving .Tudd's whare on Saturday morning at 11.15 o'clock, they reached Table Top at 10.25 a.m., ami Mount Hector at S.'Jd p.m., and . proceeded to about half-war between Mounts Hector and Alpha, where (hey ramped, at 5.10 p.m. On Sunday (hoy made a move at 7:2(1 a.m., reaching Alpha at fl a.m., and leaving again at !U0 a.m., arriving at Omega (Bull Mound) at 12.15 p.m., wherethey lunched. The party moved on again at 1.30 p.m., and reached (lie Tauhcrinikau Gorge at .'1 p.m., leaving again at 3.10 p.m. Thev gained Mount Reeves at 5.50 p.m., iiiid'itavled down at 0.1(1 p.m., This portion of U;o journey was done by moonlight, aiid (he party gol to Harrison's Flat, where they camped for Iho night, coining to Woodside on Monday morning. Here they were first met by Mr. M. Maxlon, the secretary lo Ilia Hector Track Committee, and Mr. Webster drove out lo convey them to Greytown. They speak very highly of the trip, and found nothing of n serious nature to impede their journey. Mr. Atkinson left by train for Wellington from Woodside, and the other members of the party came. in to Gre.vtoivu and left by the evening train for Wellington. The Mount Hector Track Committee will have the I rack finished for (he Faster v holidays, so Hint those going will have a straight run from Greytown to Otaki or vice versa.
