EAST COAST RAILWAY.
■ NEW SECTION TO BE OPENED. A conference took place ye>terdny between the jrinisier for Railways (the Hon. A. Jl. Jlvers) and the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. W. D. S. Jhcdonald) in regard to the taking over l-y the >uilwav Department of the Waikoku-Otoko section of the East Coast railway. It was agreed that the Railway DepaiMiient should take over the section on Jlonduy next, Anril 8, when an excursion will be run in honour of the occasion. Mr. Jlacdnnald is to Irave, Wellington aI. the end of the week, and intends lo be present at the. formal opening ceremony. It is anticipated that news of tho opening of the line will be welcomed by a large number o£ ■ settlers in the district concerned. The new section is about eight miles long. An improved time-table has been arranged under which daily trains will leave Gisborne at 8 a.m. and '1.10 p.m., and reach Otoko at 10.10 n.m. and (MO p.m. respectively. On tho down journev trains will leave Otoko daily at 5.30 a.m. and i.W n.m., and reach Gisborne at 10.10 a.m. and (i.tfl p.m. respectively. It is proposed to inaugurate the new'time-table on Easter Monday.
