A Maori child, named Ngaro Hamuora, whoso parents live nt I'etane, was admitted to the hospital yesterday suffering from the effects of carbolic, which it hail swallowed, and died thiTO-tiiiartcrs of an hour Inter. No further particulars are to hand. A COLLISION. Napier, March 31. A' collision between a mctor-cyclo and an ordinary bicycle occurred on the Taraelale Eoad" yesterday, resulting in the rider of thi< motor-cycle, Georgo Grniit, sustaining compound frnctuvo of the jaw and si broken nose. Tho rider of tho bicycle, named Walker, was severely shaken.

TERRITORIALS IN CAMP. Christchurch, March 31. Half a-battalion of the Thirteenth Ke»imeiitof In fti'n try went into camp at Eaiigi-oi-ii to-day. The men attending have been dTawn from a wide area extending from Cheviot t> Belfast, and Kaiapoi out to Springfield: -Major A.-13. Loach -is the officer in charge. The northern contingent arrived by train during the day at Uangiora. from various northern stations, and about 150 men from Southbridge, Springfield, and other southern districts reached Christchureh during the morning and went on to Hangiora by train at midday. Other contingents went on from Christchurch' at 5 p.m. and by later trains. All the men seen at Christchurch seemed to be keen on the camp, and to'have entered enthusiastically into .the spirit of the work. The camp will last- until 'next 'Saturday night. .' ..

MOISTURE IN BUTTER. Auckland, March 28. A charge of. selling butter which contained moisture iu excess of the 'amount permitted by law was brought.-.against Henry Hnrelock Meredith, juahrigcr of. the Helensville Dairy Factorv, "who appeared .at the Police Court. The analysis had shown that the butter in question contained-over 17 per cent, of water, while the regulations require that there shall not'be more than l(i per cent. After hearing evidence, his Worship imposed a fine of .£5,-and costs ,£1 9s. ■
VERDICT OF MANSLAUGHTER. Auckland, March 29. At an inquest to-day on Mrs. Calthorno M'Gill, who died in tho hospital, under .somewhat mysterious circumstances, the • hospital superintendent stated that deceased was admitted on Tuesday. The hospital authorities could not certify the causo of death; consequently a post-mor-tem examination had been-held, which ■ revealed oridence of aa illegal operation. The jury" returned a verdict of manslaugh- . tor agaiust somo person unknown.. . ...SUICIDE. -.. . Christchurch, March 29. Tha body "of Margaret Jane Amess, a married -woman, uged forty-nine years, who had been living with hor husband at Ouawa, was found in the river Ileathcote this'morning. Mrs. Ame-is iras missed late last night. Her husband had retired early, leaving lier in the drawing-room. About nine o clock a daughter came homo later and missed hor mother. A search was instituted. Mr. - Araess waa out all night, and at 5.30 this morning found tho body in the river. At the inquest it was stated that Mrs. Amoss had been in illhealth- for some time.
