KUQBY FOOTBALL.

With the near approach of th« Rugby season tho prospects. of tho various clubs are being discussed. So far as can b» gathered, tho Athletic, Oriental, Petone, Poneke, and St. James Clubs will be represented by strong teams, there boing an unusually largo number of firstclass players from other centres, including among them most of the leading -players on last year's form.

This afternoon tho annual match between Oriental and Poneko is being played, and from this a fairly good idea will be obtained of the strength of tho respective teams. Tho game should attract a largo number of followers to tho Park as in past years. . ~

Next Saturday (Easter Saturday) the City team of Auckland will pay. a yisit to Wellington, to try conclusions with tie Athletic-Club. The Auckland City has been tho leading team in Auckland for a number of years, and considerable, interest 6hould attach to their meeting with last year's local champions, as affording a fair indication of tho respective strength of club football in the two biff ccntrei,
