SWIMMING. THE "CRAWL" IN SYDNEY, . 'A NEW ZEALANDER'S IMPRESSIONS. Mr. J. T. Atkins, a prominent Wellington swimming enthusiast, nnd a member of the Lyall • Bay ■ Life-Saving Club, who has been •on ft short visit to Sydney, returned to Wellington by tho Moana "on Wednesday. Whilst in Sydney, Mr. Atkins visited a number of swimming clubs and carnivals, and was very much impressed on the development of the "crawl", stroke. Speaking to a Dominion' representative, Mr. Atkins said that swimming in Sydney has gono ahead wonderfully, and overy swimmer is a keen enthusiast. He was present at the North Sydney Church of England Grammar School's nnmial swimming sports, and was delightfully astonished and pleased to seo the numbers of boys who liad taken up tho "crawl" stroke. Tho swimming of the juniors is excellent. Ho also visited the Fort Street School's carnival, and had the enjoyment of seeing such swimmers as Longworth, ■ Hardwicke, Barry, and .lioardmau compete in_ tho events. Longworth did 110 yds. in Gosec., which is his own rccord time. Longworth could keep tho above pace up for three miles if necessary, so ho (Mr. Atkins') was informed. Mr. Atkins also saw a diving Exhibition by 3lr. Len M'Carthv and some of the Sydney Club divers. Owing to a new rule which had recently conio into operation, Mr. Atkins whs unablo to see tho champion lady swimmers, Misses Fanny Durack and Wylie, swimming. Through the kindness of Mr; "Tod" Solomons, ho -was made on honorary member of tho Coogee Surf and LifeSaving Club. The club officials very kindly put on for his edification two special demonstrations of life-saving, and Mr. Atkins's impression of the work is that it. was excellent, tho details being especially well carried out. Tho _ Ceogeo Club have a magnificent shed, which was erected at a cost of i£7so. The shed was Greeted some two years ago, and to show the enthusiasm of tho members of the club, it will bo paid for this year. The building is comfortably fitted out, and lias committee and social rooms, besides every convenience. Mr. Atkins also attended a council meeting of tho N.S.W. Surf Bathing Association, and they extended a ■hearty welcome to the Lyall Bay Surf Club. It is very likely, states Mr. Atkins, that the Coogee Surf and Life-Saving Club will send a team over to New Zealand »eit year. THORNDON CLUB. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions during the past season, tho "Thorndon Swimming Club brought' a most successful season to.a close at the Thorndon Baths last evening, with a 50 Yards Consolation Handicap, which resulted as follows:—H. Blick, 7sec., 1; B. Wilkinson, 9sec., 2. Also competed: H. Harris, A. W. Smith, W. Lomas, C. Brice, R. Ron#yne, F, Webster, and L. G. Donovan. BOWLS. X.Z. COUNCIL MEETS

A meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis A Bociation was held last evening, Mr. F H B. Fisher presiding. There were also present Messrs. Hurley, Wilson, Gore, and Gray.

■ A report upon, the Davis Cup competition fund in the general account, of the Australasian -Association was received, and it was decidcd that representation bo made to the Australasian Association asking that separate accounts be kept. The West Coast Association's 'Easter tournament, to bo held at Greymouth, and the New Zealand Inter-Univereity Easter tournament, to bo held at Dunedin were approved. ' Mr ; , H - Y. Sraddon of Sydney, was appointed a delegate to the Australasian Association in place of Mr. E. Wav who has resigned. ■ Messrs.. Hurley and Gore were appointed a sub-committee to consider and report upon the alteration to the Lawn Tennis Associations rules, with a viow to their adoption by the New Zealand Association.

Tlio links are in excellent condition, and with the addition of five new holes, completing the eighteen, tinclub possesses a course that it may well bo proud of.
