At Levin on Wednesday we hsld a sab of horses on account of Messrs. Proust' and lligginson, There was a good attendance, including some outside buyers. Competition for Messrs. Prolines' horses was keen, and with tte exception of the entire wo sold every horse at very good prices. The competition for Mr. lliggimon's horses was "not quite so keen, but we were Miccess>ful in placing the greater poi'.ion. We quote: On account M2ssrs. The Xew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—At the golway stock sale yesterday we submitted a heavy yarding in cheep of all classes. The market had a better tone, a total clearance being made. We quote:—Good ewes. 10s. 6d. to 12s. 2d.; medium, 6s. to Bs.: culls, 4s. to 55.; two-':ootb owes, best, lis. 2d.; small, Bs. 3d. to 10s.; fat and forward ewes, 12s. Gd,; small withers, 10s. 9d.: woolly lambs, 65.. £s. 6d., 75., 7s. 7d.; good Lincoln rams, 3 guineas; Downs, 10s. 6d. to 25 guineas. Messrs. J. Macintosh and Co. report having held their usual weekly sale in their Waipoun yards on Wednesday, March 27, when they offered a good yarding of caKtle and sheep, woll above the advertised numbers, which met. with good competition, buyers being present from all over the district. Consequently there was practically a to'fll clearance. Quotations ars as follow:—F.ui. ewes, 6s. 3d. to 7s. 3d.; black-face lambs (small). 6s. 6d.; woolly lambs, 7s. 5d.; shorn lambs, 7s. to Bs. 4d.; cull lambs, 3s.*, fair lambs, 6s. Id. Cattle: Two-off steers. £5 2s. 6d. to £5 lis.; twentyone months steers. £3 15s. to £3 18s.; springing heifers, £5 10=.: cows and calves, £3 3s. 6d.; «:ore cows, £2 10s. to £3 7s. 6d.; fat and forward cows, £4 to £4 7s. 6d.; fat and forward heifers, £4 95.; empty eighteenmonths heifers, £2 15s. ADDIXGTON STOCK SALE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christflhurch, March 27. At Addington there were very large entries in the sheep sections and good yardings in other departments. Store steep sold well. Fat cattle showed a little improvement. There was keen demand for fat lambs at firm rates. Fat wo.hers were also very firm, and ewes sold at last week's prices. There was little change in fat pigs, except that haconers were sligh;ly easier. There was a very heavy yarding of store sheep, ewss again forming by far the largest proportion, lambs making up most or the balance, and there were but few lines of wethers offered. There was a good demand for cw2s of all classes, and the only change at ell noticeable in values was in sellers' favour. Lambs and wethers sold at about late rates. The following was the range of prices:—Lambs, good, rape sorts, 12s. to 135.; extra, to 14s. Id.; ordinary good lambs, 10c. 3d to lis. Id.; fair sorts, 9s. 6d. to 10s.; small, 6s. Gd. to B*.; shorn lambs, to 75.; wethers, forward, four and six-tooth sorts, to 16s. Id.; others, lis. 7d. to 145.; «jwes, two-sooth, 14s. to 175.; extra, to 13s. lid.: four and six-tooth, 15s. 6d, to 16s. Gd.; four-tooth, specially good, 10s. 6d.; best sound-mouth liues, 14s. to 15s. 6d.; sound-moiv.h, medium, 10s. £d. to 12s. 3d.; inferior and aged, 9s. to 10s.; merino owes, four, six, and eight-tooth, 7s. Bd. to 10s. 6d.; inferior merinos, ?,s. 9d.; six and eight-tooth crossbreds, low conditioned and travel-stained, lis. to 165.; two and four-tooth, good, Us. to 16s. Gd.; full and failing-mouth lines. 7s, to 95.; aged and toothless sorts, 4s. -;o Bs.
Ths yarding of fat lambs wns not only j the largest for the season, totalling £029, j but the quality on the average was an im- •, nrovement upon the previous markets. 1 There were more large prime linos offered ] and these met with keen competition from | the export buyers, and though their nominal limit was, sd. per lb., this figure was frenuantly exceeded, though the average price per head was higher than at late sales. This was mere clue to the weigh, and quality of the lambs than to any ac- : tual riss iu values. All through, the market was very firm, the range of prices bning: Tegs, 17s. to 195.; ex-.ra, to 19s. 9d.; and ordinary freezing weights, 13s. to 16s. fid. There was a fairly large entry of fat sheep, ewes forming the largest proportion and among ths wethers were several lines of merinos. There was active competition' for export both in wethers and ewes, the former being firmer, while ewes sold fully up to last week's rates. Tlw range of prices was: Prime wethers, 17s. 6d. to 206.; others, 15s. Id. to 17s. Bd.; prime ewe?, 13s. to 175.; others, 9s. to 12s. Gd. There were only 172 head of fat cattle penned, and tfcsy were of mixed quality. The sale was irregular, but there was an improvement in prices in consequence oi the short supply, the range per 1001b. being 2!s. to 265. Htcers mads £8 ss. to £12; heifers. £5 10s. to £9; extra, to £11; and cows, £5 17s. 6d. to £9 ss. I Veal calves mad-3 up to 555., according 1 to size and quality, the yarding being a moderate one. I A small yarding of store pigs met with a good demand, large ports making 345. to 405.; medium, 28s. to JOs.; smaller, 16s. to 235.; and 10s. to 19s. A small entry of store cattle of a medium class met with a weaker demand and lower prices. Yearlings made 395.: fifteen .to eighteen-inonths, £2 Bs. to £3 I3s. 6(1.; two-year steers, £4 lis.; two-ysar heifers, £4 10s.; three-year steers, £5 7s. 6d. to £6; three-year heifers, £4 to £6 10s.; and dry cows, 355. to £5 165.; dairy cows, £4 10s. to £10 55.; and extra, to £13 ss. There was a medium entry of fat pigs, baconers being ratlwr easier. Choppers made 60s. to £5 75.; large baconers, 70s- to 80s.; smaller, 525. fid. to 60s. (equal to s*d. per lb.); largo porkers, 425. 6d. to 48s. 6d.; lighter, 355. to 40s. (equal to 6d. per lb.). BUBNSJDE MARKET. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Ounedin, March 27. At Burn'?id2 to-day there was a large entry of fat cattle, 198 head being yarded. There was a fair proportion of very good bullocks, and good sales resulted at prices about 10s. lower than la«<: week's rates. Prime bullocks, £11 to £12 15?.; medium, £9 10s. to £10 10s.; light and unfinished, £8 7s, Gd. to £9; good heifers, £8 7s. 6d. to £9 7s. Gd.; sxtra prime, to £12 12s. 6d.; medium and inferior, £5 7s. 6d. to £7 10s. Fat sheep: There was a large yarding, 3758 being penned. The quality showed all-round improvement on that of last week. At the commencement of the sab prices were a shade better, but towards the end they dropped to last week's rn:cs, all sorts bsing difficult to sell. Good wethers, 18s. 6d. to 215.; extra, to 225. 3d.; medium, 16s. sd. to 18s.; light and inferior, 14s, to 16s. 6d.; good ewes, 16?. 6d. :o 19s. fid.; extra, .to 21a. 9d.; medium, 15s. to 16s. 6d.; light and inferior, 10s. fid. to 14s. fid. Fat lambs: 1548 penned. The yarding included a lot of good-quality animal:?, and prices were fully 6d. per head better than last week's rates. Bed;. 14s. 6d. to 16s. 6d.; extra prime, to 18s. 3d.; medium, 13s. fid. to 14s. 6d.; light end inferior, 10s .6d. to 12s. 6d. Pigs: There was again a small yarding, and prices were vcr yfirm at late rates. Be3t, to £4 10s.; suckers, 12s. 6d. to IBs.
