FIFTH REGIMENT.
PREPARATIONS FOR CAMP.
The call to the tented field has at last come to the Fifth Regiment. Orders just published state that the battalion will parade 011 Saturday, April G, at 8.30 a.m. sharp, in the goods yards, Lambton Station, for the purpose of entraining- for Trentham (not 011 Thursday, April "i, as stated in n previous order). Dress: Marching order, i.e., khaki uniforms, rifles, side-arms,- and accoutrements; the greatcoat is not to be worn unless the weather is wet. Kit bags, securely fastened and labelled, must be at the loading bank, Lambton railway yard, not later than S.U) a.m. oil the day of entrainnient. Each man's kit bag should contain 0110 extra pair 0' boots, change of underclothing, two pairs of socks, hair and boot brushes, cleaning kit for boots and accoutrements, two towels, .shaving and washing scap, razor and strop, tooth brush and powder, extra pair c-f trousers and sweater, a pair of slippers, knife and fork, spoon, enamel plate and mug, a suit of pyjamas, 011 c blanket, and one rug. All kits must be labelled with the owner's name and his company number. The Johnsonville detachment will arrive at the Thorndon Station at 5.30, and will march direct to Lambton. The attention c-f all ranks is drawn to the necessity for keeping the camps in a sanitary condition, which can only be done by paying strict attention to the cleanliness of the lines. Each company is responsible for its own lines. The non-coiniiiissiouetl c-llieer or senior man 111 each tent must see that kit bags are neatly rolled and arranged inside tiie tent, and also that the tent curtains are rolled up in iiite weather. Flags will mark the watering p'aies; a while flag for drinking and cooking; blue for horses; red for bathing ami '\ashing. The attention of all ranks is diawn to Section oil, part vii, of the lMc'iies- Act, 1909, which prohibits the taking of lir,uor into camp. Anyone found doing so is liable to a fine of .£.-0, and will he pioeeetletl against in accordance with the Act. A dry canteen will be arranged fer, at which soft drinks, fruit,"etc., may le purchased.
All ranks are warned against (iainnging, destroying, or trespassing on private property. Military police' will l-e ni.dc-r the orders of the. adjutant, and when on duty must .wear their badges over the cull's of the left sleeves. Tltcy will be responsible for the carrying out of the standing orders. A guard will mount daily at "Retreat," and will remain 011 dutv till "Keveillie."
An in-lying "picquet" will be detailed dailv, and will consist of a complete company. They will parade at "Ketreat," and will ha 011 duty . till "Retreat" the following night. The "Alarm Post" will be the battalion parade ground. The large mess-room will be formed into a regimental institute, and organised amusements will be provided after the day's work. Men intending to comnste in sports, etc., may take their running gear. The camp is to be mad? as attractive and comfortable as possible. About -six hours'- work will be done in the day, which will probably finish about -i p.m." A surgeon ant! chaplain will be attached to tlio regiment.
