At the Polico Conrl this afternoon two men named lidward Joseph dodder and Alexander Nicholson were charged with assaulting an Assyrian named Abdulh last night. Both were convicted, Hodilei being sentenced to 11 davs in gaol, without the option of a fine, and Nicholson was lined £3 and costs, in default ten days in gaol. The Assyrian was kicked on tho head, receiving some nastv wounds. At tho monthly meeting of" the lire brigade last night, the superintendent reported that there was 'evcrv prospect of tin; next gathering; of the 'United Fire Brigades' Association being held in Pnlnierston North. Police-Inspector and Mrs. Norwood, prior io leaving for Greymouth, are to be presented with a silver tea service and pursoof sovereigns. During their sojourn in Pnlnierston, Mr. and Mrs. Norwood havo in ado many friends.
