» CARRIED SHOULDER-HIGH AND CHEERED. Tho men of tho Ninth Regiment in camp at/i'akapau fluisliod up their last evening under canvas by showing their admiration for thoir officers, who had evidently made themselves exceedingly popular. The affair was scarcely such as would he permissible under tho stricter discipline of regulars, but this question was not raised. When the officers were at mess they noticed a company of men marching down upon their tent in perfect order, preceded by a band. The detachment hailed outside, tho mess tent, .and the senior non-commissioned officer 'wont in nnd asked permission to spoak to ' Lieut.-Colonel Charters, O.C. No. 2 Bat Ifllioii. No sooner had ho emerged from the tent than ho was seized by (lie men, lifted from his feet, and carried shoulder liigh through tho lines, amid tumultuoua and joyful cheering, and singing of "For he's a Jolly Good Fellow." Tho Colonel addressed (ho men, congratulating them on their enthusiasm, and then he wo* carried back to the mess tent.
