WELLINGTON CLUB'S REPORT. The fourteenth annual report of the Wellington Hockey Club, to be presented at the annual meeting this evening, states that (ho membership roll is satisfactory, there beiug four life members, two honorary, and 38 active members. As at the commencement of the season there were 18 only of the previous Reason's players available, the fact that the club throughout the season managed to plnce three teams in the field, lelleets great credit upon tho energy and keenness shown by members. It is with the deepest regret that we have to record the death of Robert Dob.son, who was drowned nt Lyall Bay on December 10. The deceased was one of the most promising players in the clul>, and , on account of his sterling qualities, one of the most popular. Another player whose resignation through transfer was most keenly felt was 1". IC. llarty, a representative player, and keen worker. The financial position, despite a largo amount of extraordinary expenditure, is satisfactory, there being n balance of .£■( ICs. in Hie bank, with .fS 17s. 3d. in linnd. Tho playing record of thui senior team was not very satisfactory, but the number of goals scored against is no criterion, as in several matches the team was shorthanded, owing to the defection of one meiiiixT. The team finished fourth. Matches played 10, won 3, lost 0, drawn 1, goals for 20, against 32. The same inconsistency, as of previous seasons, was again displayed, namely, of making; good lights against stronger teams and huing defeated by weakw ones. The junior team, in spile of adver.-e' circumstances, put up a line record in defeating most of the loading trliins, After losing the first three games, this team was only one defeated subsequently. Their record reads: I'layod 11. won C," lost ■!. drawn 1, goals for"23, against 18. Owing to the large numl.'fr of resignations at the end of the previous season, tho third team suffered
somewhat from lack of players until late in tho season, but the club hae ovcry reason to be proud of their performance in battling right through the round. With only two of tho previous season's players, to have finished fifth is quite satisfactory. Games played 13, Von 5, lost G, drawn 2, goals for 22, against 42. Tho thanks of the club are duo to Messrs. J. H. B. Coates, K D. Bell, R. G. Eeed, and 1). 11. MenziDs, for donntious; to Mr. A. S. Biss for his kind assistance in revising the club rules, and to Messrs. Morpeth and Marrah for tho use of rooms for meetings. Tho Karori Hockey Club entertained their champions at a smoke concert on Saturday evening in >tho Parochial Hull, Karori. The chairman of the Wellington Hockey Association (Mr. W. Organ), protided over the gathering of CO, which included Councillors Burn, Hamilton, and Anderson, who spoke, in reference to the grounds at Karori Park. Songs and recitations by Messrs. Muir, Mason, Hunter, Smythe, L.-navies, G. Dnvies, Cooper, Henderson, Finlayson, and G'artwright pleasantly relieved tho intervals. Mr. Anderson presided at tho piano. A lengthy toast list was disposed of, and the happy evening was ended with "Auld Lang Sync." Tho season opens with practice on Saturday next at Karori.
