AUCKLAND EXHIBITION.
GOVERNMENT GRANT TO BE ASKED
IBj TclcErapli- i'ress Association.) Auckland, March 22. The executive of the Exhibition Committee met to-iiny. It was resolved that the title of tlie. Exhibition bo "The Auckland Industrial, Agricultural, and Mining Exhibition." The date of opening was fixed for December 1, l!)lll, and the period of the Exhibition at three months, to be extended if found advisable. Tho president said it would bo ndvisablo to ask Parliament, for a cash giant of .MOO towards the fluids of the Exhibition. Previous exhibitions had been liberally subsidised, e.nd he had littlo doubt a useful donation would be made in this instance. Fifteen lists wore distributed among the members of the committee, lo bo taken round the city for the purpose of soliciting guarantee-;. The. president stated that it was hoped that the lists would bo returned within a week with JCSUOO guaranteed. It was suggested that guarantees of .r.IOO should be"asked for. There was, in his opinion, no chance for any of the guarantors to lose n pennv. In connection with the guarantee lists, it was decided to fix the amounts to Ire guaranteed bv individuals ns from XSO to £IW. The president moved that any surplus from the Exhibition should 1)0 devoted solely to the improvement .of the outer Domain., II the surplus ware large, and any specially desirable object were found so that it was generally considered proper to divert Hie funds, the guarantors could meet the City Council and then a unanimous decision on tho point would enable the diversion to be made. Tho course suggested by the president was adopted unanimously.
